The OAKHIMEDES project, investigating cork oak adaptations to climate change, has opened applications for two research grants at the University of the Algarve, in Faro.

Applications are open for a Post-Doctoral Research Grant and a Master's Research Grant, within the scope of the OAKHIMEDES project - “Cork oak adaptations to climate change and how they promote ecosystem sustainability” (ALGARVE-FEDER-03316200 OAKHIMEDES), funded by ICDT Algarve 2030. The project seeks to understand how cork oaks respond and adapt to climate change, through the monitoring and analysis of environmental, physiological, and molecular data collected in experimental forest plots. The work will be developed at CIMA and the Superior Engineering Institute of the University of the Algarve, under the scientific guidance of Ana Cristina Coelho and Jorge Semião.
The Post-Doctoral grant is intended for PhD holders in Biological Sciences, Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, or related fields, with experience in bioinformatic analysis of genomic and proteomic data. The work will focus on the integration and analysis of environmental, physiological, and molecular data, using bioinformatics tools, statistical methods, and machine learning, to identify indicators of cork oak adaptation and resilience capacity. The grant will have a duration of 12 months, with an expected start date in January 2027.
Applications are open until November 6, 2026, and should be sent to acoelho@ualg.pt, with a CC to jsemiao@ualg.pt, referencing “EDITAL N.º 102/2026”. Consult the official notice and application instructions.
The Master's grant is intended for Master's graduates in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or related fields, with an interest in data analysis and visualization, scientific programming, machine learning, and environmental sensor data. The grantee will support the monitoring of meteorological and soil conditions in experimental forest plots, as well as the development of models to identify patterns and environmental factors associated with tree response and resilience. The grant will have a duration of 12 months, with an expected start date in January 2027.
Applications are open until November 6, 2026, and should be sent to acoelho@ualg.pt, with a CC to jsemiao@ualg.pt, referencing “EDITAL N.º 103/2026”. Consult the official notice and application instructions.
