The Municipal Council of Viana do Castelo has approved the rules for the “Super S – Healthy and Sustainable Eating” Challenge, which will be implemented in the municipality's schools in the new academic year to promote good eating habits.

Aligned with the UN's Agenda for Sustainable Development, the Municipality of Viana do Castelo aims to encourage healthy and sustainable eating in public schools. The goal is to instill good eating habits in the youngest children, which are essential for the future of generations.
The objectives of the “Super S” Challenge include fostering healthy and sustainable eating habits, increasing the consumption of plant-based foods, seasonal fruits, and vegetables in school snacks, raising awareness about the impact of lifestyles on the environment, and reducing food waste in school canteens.
Challenge number 1 focuses on increasing the consumption of plant-based foods, with one 100% plant-based lunch per month between November 2026 and May 2027. Challenge number 2 promotes healthy snacks with seasonal fruit and vegetables, preferably on Wednesdays and Thursdays. Challenge number 3 aims to reduce food waste through evaluation and implementation of control measures in school canteens.
Registration for the challenge will take place from October 13th to 30th, via an application form provided by the Municipality, where each school must identify the desired challenge(s), the responsible teacher, and the necessary contacts.
