In the Education sector, the award was presented to Maria Cristina Corado, councilor of the Albufeira Municipal Chamber, representing the Municipality. The distinction recognizes the "Espaço IN – Sala da Calma" (Calm Room Space), an inclusive education project developed as part of the Summer Holidays Project, aimed at ensuring the participation of children with special educational needs through tailored support. These resources aim to provide conditions for maintaining routines, ensuring moments of pause, and supporting self-regulation. Out of 774 children registered in the project, 49 had special educational needs, nine with individualized support, involving 29 professionals.
On October 2nd, the Sport awards were presented at the Portimão Municipal Theatre, attended by the vice-president of the Albufeira Municipal Chamber, Jorge Carmo. The projects "Domingos Ativos" (Active Sundays) and "Albufeira a Nadar" (Albufeira Swimming) were honored for their contribution to promoting physical activity, inclusion, and healthy lifestyles.
"Domingos Ativos" promotes regular physical activity through free monthly initiatives, encouraging healthy habits and social interaction. Meanwhile, "Albufeira a Nadar" targets 3rd and 4th-year primary school students, developing basic aquatic skills and drowning prevention, while also fostering social inclusion.
These three awards recognize municipal responses that bridge education, inclusion, and sport, benefiting children, families, and the community. The sports distinctions hold particular significance in the year Albufeira is the European City of Sport.
Promoted by Cidade Social (Social City), the National Recognition of Municipal Excellence distinguishes meritorious projects developed by municipalities to highlight best practices and encourage the sharing of experiences and solutions.
