The Convento Corpus Christi hosted the Ceremony for the Awarding of Honorary Medals by the Municipality of Gaia. The event, part of the commemorations for the 116th anniversary of the Proclamation of the Republic, aimed to honor individuals who have distinguished themselves through their careers and dedication to the municipality of Vila Nova de Gaia.
The presentation of distinctions was led by the President of the Câmara Municipal de Gaia, Luís Filipe Menezes, who highlighted the importance of the work developed by the honorees in various fields.
In the Professional Merit Class (Gold Grade), Joaquim Castro Chaves and Olívia Rito were distinguished. The Sports Merit Medal (Gold Grade) was awarded to Edmundo Duarte. In Public Service, Álvaro Santos and Joaquim Leite received the Merit Medal (Gold Grade). In the Civic Class (Gold Grade), Jorge Tormenta and, posthumously, Nuno Castro Chaves were honored.
The highlight of the session was the awarding of the Medal of Honor to Artur Santos Silva, who received the title of Honorary Citizen of Vila Nova de Gaia. Artur Santos Silva spoke at the closing of the ceremony on behalf of all the distinguished individuals.
Through this solemn act, the Municipal Executive reinforces the celebration of the example and dedication of those who contribute to the progress and prestige of the Municipality.
