The ceremony, scheduled for 3:00 PM at the CCDR Alentejo Auditorium, I.P., in Évora, marks a significant investment from the Alentejo 2030 Regional Program. The goal is to strengthen the capacity for risk prevention, preparedness, and response by enhancing the operational resources of Volunteer Firefighter Humanitarian Associations and civil protection services in the region.
This investment, resulting from coordinated efforts between the Alentejo 2030 Regional Program, Intermunicipal Communities, Municipalities, and civil protection agents, contributes to climate change adaptation, increased public safety, and enhanced territorial resilience in Alentejo. Operational vehicles, equipment, and other essential materials for firefighting and integrated risk management will be acquired.
The event will be attended by the Secretary of State for Planning and Regional Development, representatives from CCDR Alentejo, I.P., the Alentejo 2030 Regional Program management authority, the five Intermunicipal Communities, the National Authority for Emergency and Civil Protection, Volunteer Firefighter Humanitarian Associations, fire departments, and involved Municipalities.
The program includes a presentation of the regional investment supported by Alentejo 2030, detailing the operation's scope, covered territories, supported resources, and expected impact. This will be followed by a panel discussion titled “Building a More Resilient Alentejo: Territorial Cooperation, Civil Protection, and Risk Management,” bringing together the presidents of the five partner Intermunicipal Communities to discuss climate change challenges, inter-municipal cooperation, and the strategic role of investments in protecting populations and natural resources.
The signing of financing commitments will symbolically formalize this structural investment. The ceremony will conclude with institutional addresses by Rui Conchinha, Regional Commander of the National Authority for Emergency and Civil Protection, Ricardo Pinheiro, President of CCDR Alentejo, I.P., and Hélder Reis, Secretary of State for Planning and Regional Development.
This support significantly enhances the operational capacity of the region's civil protection agents and firefighters, encompassing over fifty vehicles and various protection and rescue equipment, through a coordinated action by the Intermunicipal Communities of Alto Alentejo, Alentejo Central, Baixo Alentejo, Alentejo Litoral, and Lezíria do Tejo.
