The Local Health Unit of Alentejo Central (ULS AC) has updated information regarding the outbreak of respiratory illness caused by Influenza A Virus in a care home in the Estremoz municipality. Since the outbreak's identification on September 23rd, health teams have been monitoring the situation.
The team from the Unit for Personalized Healthcare (UCSP) in Estremoz continues to provide clinical follow-up for residents, in coordination with the care home's attending physician. The Public Health Department of ULS AC visited the home on September 24th to verify compliance with infection control measures, hygiene, isolation, and the use of personal protective equipment.
Between September 23rd and 27th, the Multipurpose Emergency Service (SUP) of ULS AC received nine patients from the care home. Three have since been discharged back to the home, and three remain hospitalized. Three deaths have been recorded: two on September 24th and one on the afternoon of today, September 27th. In two of these deaths, infection with Influenza A Virus was laboratory-confirmed.
A further visit by the UCSP team to the care home this afternoon identified no new occurrences or clinical deterioration among the residents remaining there. Clinical and epidemiological surveillance continues, in coordination with the Technical Directorate of the ERPI.
ULS AC extends its sincere condolences to the families of the deceased patients and will continue to closely monitor the situation's evolution.
