Águas de Coimbra has proposed a tariff update for 2027, aiming to cover increased costs and investment needs for water and wastewater networks.

The proposal by Águas de Coimbra aims to ensure the continuity and quality of public service, as well as preserve investment capacity in the networks and equipment serving the municipality. The update, which accompanies rising costs and investment needs, reflects the price increase for water supply and wastewater treatment communicated by Águas do Centro Litoral, which supplies about 99% of the water purchased by the municipal company. An increase in costs for human resources, energy, fuel, and goods and services is anticipated.
In simulations for domestic customers, the monthly bill impact is estimated at around €0.62 for a consumption of 5 m³ and €1.02 for 10 m³. The approximately 4% update does not affect the entire bill, which includes other charges like waste management fees, resulting in a lower percentage increase in the total amount payable compared to the tariff update itself.
Tariff revenues contribute to the conservation and renewal of networks, reduction of water losses, and modernization of systems, which are essential for maintaining the reliability of supply and sanitation. The update seeks to ensure that revenues keep pace with service costs and allow for continued investment, preserving the company's financial balance.
The update covers water tariffs and the fixed component of wastewater services. For wastewater, the percentage used to calculate the variable component, which is based on water consumption, remains the same. Social tariffs for water and wastewater will maintain their 2026 values, including exemptions and adapted calculation conditions. Consumption tiers for large families and differentiated tariff conditions for Private Institutions of Social Solidarity will also be maintained.
The proposal also updates the prices for auxiliary services based on labor costs, equipment, and travel, and introduces tariffs for the maintenance of drinking fountains and the cleaning and clearing of watercourses.
