The Municipality of Arganil celebrated European Mobility Week, under the theme “Mobility for all – Justice between generations”, from September 16th to 25th. The initiative aimed to involve the school community and the general public in actions that highlighted the importance of small changes in daily habits for a more accessible, safe, and sustainable municipality.
The “Boleia Humana – Vamos a Pé para a Escola” (Human Carpool – Let's Walk to School) campaign encouraged students from EB1/JI de Sarzedo and EB1 de Arganil to choose walking instead of using cars, thus promoting active and safe mobility from an early age.
As part of the European Car-Free Day on September 22nd, several streets in the town center of Arganil were symbolically closed to car traffic. This action aimed to raise awareness about the need to create spaces more conducive to pedestrian circulation and more sustainable forms of transport.
The safety of scooter and bicycle users was also a central focus. 9th-grade students from Escola Básica 2,3 de Arganil and the Councilor for Environment, Mobility, and Energy, Luís Almeida, participated in a talk led by the National Republican Guard on traffic rules. The Municipal Library Miguel Torga also hosted a bibliographic exhibition on the theme.
The Municipality of Arganil's objective was to promote a lasting change in habits, reinforcing the importance of mobility that meets the needs of all generations and contributes to a more inclusive and sustainable territory.
