Seventeen textile art pieces created by Fashion Design students from the University of Beira Interior (UBI) are being showcased at Contextile 2026 – Contemporary Textile Art Biennial, in Guimarães, until November 29.

The works, developed during the "Sustainability in Fashion" course, are part of the collective exhibition “Por um Fio”, within the section “Emergências: Ensino Artístico e Criação Têxtil” (Emergencies: Artistic Teaching and Textile Creation) at IDEGUI – Guimarães Design Institute. This initiative highlights sustainable innovation and emerging artistic creation in the textile field.
Aligned with this year's theme, "By a Thread - Por um Fio", the UBI installation features 17 handmade pieces made from clothing industry waste. Curated by Aline Monçores and Yoad Luxembourg, the wearable panels explore the threshold of vulnerability, combining artisanal techniques with ecodesign approaches.
The exhibition, designed as a suspended labyrinth, presents the works as dense wall tapestries and fluid garments. The pieces evoke monoliths that gently sway, while loose threads on the floor invite visitors to navigate the delicate anatomy of contemporary crises.
Contextile 2026, featuring Chinese artist Ai Weiwei as guest of honor, brings together 54 international artists and spans various cultural and urban points in Guimarães until November 29, with a multidisciplinary program.
