The III Nursing Conference on Maternal and Obstetric Health, organized by the Local Health Unit (ULS) do Nordeste, took place in Bragança on October 30th, fostering knowledge sharing among professionals from various fields.

Under the theme “Integration of Knowledge in Obstetrics,” the initiative brought together specialists to discuss pregnancy, birth, postpartum, and breastfeeding. It was attended by the ULS do Nordeste's Board of Directors, represented by the Clinical Director of Hospital Healthcare, Rui Terras, and the Nursing Director, Anabela Martins.
Organized by Specialist Nurses in Maternal and Obstetric Health from the Gynecology and Obstetrics Service of the Bragança Hospital Unit, the Conference aimed at scientific updating and multidisciplinary reflection on the care provided to women and families throughout the maternity journey.
The scientific component included three thematic panels with the participation of doctors, specialist nurses, a physiotherapist, and a speech therapist, including a professional from the El Bierzo University Hospital in Ponferrada, Spain.
The first panel, “Woman and Pregnancy,” addressed various dimensions of this stage, from bodily changes during the nine months of gestation to the importance of ultrasound, prenatal care in Primary Health Care, and sexuality during pregnancy. The second panel, “On the Way to Birth,” focused on labor induction and the role of the pelvic floor during pregnancy and postpartum.
In the afternoon, the panel “Challenges in Breastfeeding” focused on breast changes during pregnancy and postpartum, latching difficulties, tongue-tie, and the practical aspects of breastfeeding. The program also included personal testimonies, complementing the technical-scientific approach of the professionals.
The event thus facilitated the sharing of knowledge across different professional areas, contributing to an integrated approach to maternal and obstetric healthcare and updating the knowledge of professionals who support women and families at various stages of maternity.
