As part of the World Animal Day, celebrated annually on October 4th, the Cantinho do Animal – Official Collection Center (CRO) for Intermunicipal Companion Animals of Terra Quente Transmontana, belonging to the five municipalities of Alfândega da Fé, Carrazeda de Ansiães, Macedo de Cavaleiros, Mirandela, and Vila Flor, is organizing Animal Week 2026.
The initiative aims to promote the adoption of abandoned animals collected by the municipalities, contributing to an increase in the adoption rate, and to raise public awareness about the importance of protection, rights, and well-being of companion animals.
During Animal Week, animals available for adoption will be vaccinated, dewormed, sterilized, identified, and registered. This is an opportunity to responsibly welcome a new family member.
Those interested in adopting an animal for free should visit the Cantinho do Animal facilities in Urjais, Frechas, between October 4th and 11th, 2026. Opening hours are weekdays from 09:00 to 16:00, and weekends and holidays from 09:00 to 12:00.
Since 2005, the Cantinho do Animal has been working to safeguard the living conditions of companion animals and defend Public Health and the Environment in the Terra Quente Transmontana region. Since 2017, it has ensured free sterilization of animals for adoption, in line with legal changes.
The Association of Municipalities of Terra Quente Transmontana (AMTQT) reaffirms its commitment to animal protection and welfare, thanking all partners and competent authorities for their continuous support and collaboration in various campaigns and initiatives.
