The Municipality of Vieira do Minho partnered with the organization of the 2026/2027 School Cross-Country Race, promoted by the Agrupamento de Escolas Vieira de Araújo. The event took place on October 14th at Parque dos Moinhos in Vieira do Minho, gathering around 600 students from 1st to 12th grade. The morning was dedicated to sports, camaraderie, and the promotion of healthy lifestyle habits, offering students a sporting activity that combines competition with personal achievement, teamwork, and respect for peers.
Participants ran on different circuits, adapted to their age groups, in an atmosphere marked by enthusiasm and fair play. The event included an awards ceremony for the winners, attended by the Mayor, Filipe de Oliveira, the Councilor for Education, Sofia Rocha, and the Councilor for Sports, Carlos Mota.
The initiative was also supported by the Volunteer Firefighters and the GNR (National Republican Guard), through the Escola Segura program, who ensured safety conditions and the smooth running of the event. Beyond the competitive aspect, the School Cross-Country Race was particularly important in promoting physical activity, inclusion, and strengthening bonds between different educational cycles, contributing to a more participatory and cohesive school community.
The Municipality of Vieira do Minho congratulates all participating students, especially the winners, for their commitment and sportsmanship. The work developed by the Agrupamento de Escolas Vieira de Araújo, teachers, staff, and other involved entities in making this initiative a reality is also highlighted.
