The Póvoa de Lanhoso Municipal Council approved the celebration of protocols with five IPSS (Private Social Solidarity Institutions) for the continuation of Animation and Family Support Activities (AAAF) in preschool education and the supervision of meals for 1st-cycle students.

These agreements aim to ensure the provision of quality services to children and their families, guaranteeing the continuity of these essential activities. Partner institutions include Em Diálogo – Associação para o Desenvolvimento Social da Póvoa de Lanhoso, the Comissão de Melhoramentos de Santo Emilião, the Centro Social das Paróquias de S. Pedro de Serzedelo e S. Gens de Calvos, the Centro Social da Paróquia de Garfe, and the Santa Casa da Misericórdia da Póvoa de Lanhoso. A novelty in these agreements is the change in the calculation formula, a solution found with the partners.
The Municipal Council and the IPSS share efforts to provide educational, animation, and support activities. For example, in the 2025/2026 school year, municipal services led the Extended Hours program at the Cávado Basic School, offering weekly physical activity and the Hora de Ser® Program – Sensitizing and Educating for Relationships in Preschool, created by APAV, which aims to prevent violence and promote healthy relationships.
AAAF, which are optional, ensure the supervision of children before and after educational activities, including morning reception and afternoon extension. These services align with the educational project objectives of the School Groupings and the Municipality of Póvoa de Lanhoso, which promotes family support measures to ensure a full-time school.
The Municipal Council recognizes the importance of these activities as an essential component of an integrated and inclusive educational policy, reaffirming its commitment to quality, accessible preschool education that promotes child and family well-being. Partnerships are fundamental to optimizing resources, expanding the impact of actions, and meeting the needs of the Póvoa de Lanhoso community.
