The Mayor of Guimarães, Ricardo Araújo, visited Costa Guerreiro, Lda., in Pencelo, marking the start of Guimarães Economy Month 2026. The company, specializing in textile and fashion labels, was recognized for its growth, international expansion, and focus on innovative solutions that blend industry with sustainability.
Ricardo Araújo emphasized the company's longevity and adaptability, now in its third generation. "We are looking at a company with over five decades of activity... which has shown, in recent years, a great capacity for innovation," stated the mayor, highlighting the value of accumulated knowledge and experience in developing new solutions.
Welcomed by Pedro Guerreiro, the company's CEO, and his brother Emídio Guerreiro, a former Secretary of State, the Mayor toured the facilities and production line. Araújo underscored the vital role of local businesses in creating jobs, wealth, and opportunities, acknowledging the contributions of entrepreneurs and workers in driving Guimarães' economy.
Employing around 130 people, Costa Guerreiro produces approximately 7.5 million labels daily, with 58% of its output exported. The visit showcased ongoing projects, including labels made from recycled textile yarns, a pilot initiative aligned with Guimarães' designation as European Green Capital 2026 and the challenges of the circular economy and sustainability.
The event highlighted the central theme of this year's Economy Month program: the capacity of local companies to innovate, grow, and create value while addressing contemporary economic and environmental challenges.
