Guimarães Historic Center hosted, this Tuesday, a parade promoted by the Maré Sizígia Project, aiming to foster a more inclusive culture and raise awareness about the participation of people with disabilities in cultural and artistic life.

The initiative, organized by CERCIGUI with the support of the Municipality of Guimarães and the Municipal Forum for People with Disabilities, involved 13 local institutions. During the parade, creative works made from reusable materials, inspired by ocean life, were showcased.
Representing the Mayor of Guimarães, Ângela Oliveira, Head of the Presidency's Cabinet, highlighted that the project demonstrates "that a city is stronger when everyone has space to participate, create, and be seen." She further emphasized that "inclusion is not a favor granted, but a right realized through each person's participation, in their own way, in community life," expressing the wish that "this tide does not recede, that it continues to be a living tide."
“

"Just as every fish is part of a school, every person has their place, their importance, and their right to participate in their society."

Bruno Faria · President of CERCIGUI
Bruno Faria, president of CERCIGUI, expressed his happiness at seeing "the joy of the young people throughout the parade" and underlined the importance of everyone's participation. He also issued the challenge to take the project to other municipalities, stating that "it is not enough to talk about inclusion, we must truly include everyone."
The Maré Sizígia Project thus highlighted the role of art and creativity in inclusion and the importance of networking in building a truly inclusive society.
