The streets of Guimarães will be the stage on September 29th for a unique artistic intervention. The “Maré de Sizígia” project will present a gigantic shoal of fish, collectively created from plastic bottles and other reused materials, in a celebration that merges art, sustainability, and social inclusion.
More than just a work of art, the project aims to affirm the right to full participation of people with disabilities in the community's cultural life. Art serves as a tool for participation, encounter, and social transformation, bringing expression and creativity beyond institutional contexts and into public spaces.
The “Maré de Sizígia” is built on a strong spirit of cooperation and networking, bringing together hundreds of supported individuals, technicians, and teams from similar institutions across different municipalities in the region. CERCIGUI, the promoting entity, is supported by the Municipality of Guimarães and the Municipal Forum for People with Disabilities, and partners with various institutions, including the Centro Social de Brito, the Santa Casa da Misericórdia de Guimarães, APCG, CERCIBRAGA, among others.
Each institution contributed to the conception and construction of parts of this multi-regional shoal, in a collective process that transforms recycled materials into unique artistic pieces. The result will be presented in the streets of Guimarães, in a moment marked by color, music, movement, and the active participation of people with disabilities as cultural protagonists.
Before the main parade, the project will be unveiled at a press conference and an exhibition at the Casa da Memória, featuring a representative selection of the fish created by the partner entities. This initiative will offer insight into the creation process, highlight the work developed by the institutions, and introduce the participants.
Through “Maré de Sizígia”, the involved entities aim to strengthen networking, promote a more inclusive culture, and raise community awareness about the participation of people with disabilities in cultural and artistic life. The project also seeks to establish a model of collective, sustainable, and replicable creation.
