Eduardo Leite, Vice-President of the Guimarães Municipal Chamber and Municipal Councillor for Equality, received the award on October 26, 2026, at a ceremony held at Casa da Música in Porto.
This distinction holds particular significance for Guimarães, coinciding with the celebration of the 25th anniversary of the Municipal Space for Equality. Throughout this period, the Municipality has consistently worked to promote gender equality, non-discrimination, and social inclusion.
The "Viver em Igualdade" Prize, a biennial initiative by the Commission for Citizenship and Gender Equality, has recognized the Municipality of Guimarães for its evidence of good practices and public policies focused on proximity to people and integrating equality as a guiding principle in local governance.
This award also reflects the collective effort of municipal services, partner entities, and community stakeholders in Guimarães, who daily contribute to affirming the city as a fairer, more inclusive, and egalitarian territory.
