The inauguration of the renovation works at the Agilde Sports Field took place on Saturday the 31st, featuring new facilities for the Mota Futebol Clube and aiming to create a sports complex for all generations and neighboring parishes' sports associations.
The intervention involved the refurbishment of the old changing rooms and the construction of a new multipurpose space. According to the President of the Municipal Chamber of Celorico de Basto, José Peixoto Lima, the works ensure "necessary and urgent conditions for the Mota Futebol Clube, both at the youth training level and for the senior team, as well as for the management, with spaces for meetings, guaranteeing a functional space for the club's management". The mayor highlighted the importance of "guaranteeing sports conditions for the entire community of Celorico", addressing a "gap that we felt existed in this area of the municipality" and strengthening "the sense of belonging and pride".
This project is in addition to other recent interventions in the parish of Agilde, such as the installation of sewage systems, fiber optic, rehabilitation of the primary school for affordable housing, paving of national roads and access routes, and the urban requalification of the area surrounding the Church of Santa Eufémia de Agilde.
The president of the Parish Council of Agilde, Sílvia Cunha, stated that the interventions aim to "gradually transform this facility into a true sports, cultural, and community complex that meets the needs of our population". She emphasized the cooperation between parishes, exemplified by the facility being driven by the Mota Futebol Clube, whose headquarters are in the neighboring parish of Fervença, noting that "sport knows no administrative borders".
Márcio Neves, President of Mota FC, expressed that the works "exceeded my expectations" and fulfilled the objective of "giving all young people in the upper part of the municipality the opportunity to practice sports and be valued". He stressed that the club "belongs to the athletes, parents, members, and fans".
The urban arrangement had a total cost of €388,816.27, with support from the European Union through Norte 2030 (Regional Program North) amounting to €276,916.60.
