Braga has been selected as a pilot territory for the European project LIFE SaveEnergyTogether, an initiative aimed at promoting energy saving, improving housing comfort, and preventing energy poverty among vulnerable families.
The project, developed in Portugal by ADENE – Energy Agency, involves collaboration in Braga with the Municipality, BragaHabit, and local partners. The intervention began in the municipal neighborhoods of Andorinhas and Parretas, later extending to other population groups.
Through a proximity approach, the initiative seeks to demonstrate how small changes in daily habits and the adoption of low-cost solutions can reduce energy consumption and enhance housing comfort.
“
"The energy transition will only be truly fair if it reaches all families. It is not enough to make buildings and equipment more efficient. It is necessary to give people knowledge and tools that allow them to reduce consumption and live with greater comfort. Energy is an essential need, and no family should be left behind for failing to ensure adequate comfort conditions in their home."
Within the project's scope, actions were promoted for residents of municipal neighborhoods, children, youth, senior citizens, and municipal social workers. Highlights include energy literacy sessions in schools, door-to-door awareness campaigns, and the distribution of efficient equipment and training for social area technicians.
Braga's participation in LIFE SaveEnergyTogether aligns with the Municipality's work under the European Mission of Smart and Climate-Neutral Cities, which coordinates measures for energy efficiency, renewable energy, sustainable mobility, and citizen participation.
“
"A more sustainable municipality is built with efficient infrastructure, but also with informed and involved citizens. Every family that knows how to reduce its consumption contributes to a more prepared and resilient community."
