The Guimarães City Council will launch the procedure for the construction of a new segregated road in the coming weeks, which will connect the Creixomil Variant to the ER206, towards Silvares, announced the Mayor, Ricardo Araújo.
The project, long promised, received formal green light after the publication in the Diário da República of the decision by the Minister of Infrastructure and Housing, Miguel Pinto Luz, validating the technical opinions of the Institute for Mobility and Transport (IMT) and the management contract between the Municipality and Infraestruturas de Portugal (IP).
Ricardo Araújo highlighted that this intervention is fundamental for decongesting the Silvares junction and met the assumed timeline, having been approved in just one year by the relevant authorities. "I hope it will become a reality very soon," stated the mayor, emphasizing the importance of the project for the Vimaranenses.
The new road will connect the ER206/Creixomil Variant and the old EN206/Rua Joaquim Ribeiro de Moura, optimizing the road network, enhancing safety, and environmental sustainability. The project aims to alleviate local traffic pressure and eliminate a critical bottleneck in the municipality.
