The commencement of the works was attended by the Mayor, João Rodrigues, and the Deputy Mayor, Altino Bessa, who accompanied the teams responsible for the execution of a highly specialized technical project on site. The new São Geraldo, with state-of-the-art multidisciplinary facilities, will be prepared to host large-scale performances, contemporary artistic creation, performing arts, and festivals.
“"After decades of abandonment, we have begun a comprehensive intervention in São Geraldo and Pé Alado to establish a reference cultural hub, with the largest black box in the country, and also to provide new facilities for the Parish Council. We will return this heritage to the people of Braga, multiply the cultural offer, and consolidate an authentic arts quarter in the heart of the city."
The contract was awarded for approximately €13 million, but the total investment will amount to €18 million, a figure that includes the acquisition of the property, specialized technical studies and tests (such as acoustics and geotechnics), supervision, as well as future equipment procurement.
“"We are designing municipal facilities for the Braga of the present and the future, a vibrant, cosmopolitan, and attractive city. This space will enrich our cultural offerings, enhance the quality of life for residents, and consolidate Braga as a hub capable of attracting audiences from other territories. Its rehabilitation is fundamental to making the city center a more pleasant place to live and visit."
In parallel, the headquarters of the Parish Council of São Lázaro e São João do Souto, in the Pé Alado building, will undergo a modernization of citizen services, uniting cultural offerings and administrative proximity within the same block. The project is funded by the FEDER under the NORTE 2030 Programme.
