The Youth Councillor of the Municipal Chamber of Barcelos, Carlos Eduardo Reis, today emphasized the importance of training, employment, and housing in ensuring young people's autonomy, advocating for a long-term, transversal strategy.

The councillor spoke at the Campus of the Polytechnic University of Cávado and Ave (UPCA), in Barcelos, during the 5th edition of the "Grow Your Skills Up" Job Fair, which concluded today after three days dedicated to promoting employability, skill development, and bridging the gap between young people and the job market. The initiative also took place at the Casa da Juventude.
Carlos Eduardo Reis stressed that attracting investment must be accompanied by the creation of employment opportunities and conditions that allow people to build their future in Barcelos. "We want Barcelos to be a municipality where it is possible to live with quality, from childhood to old age. For this, it is essential to guarantee employment opportunities, good working conditions, and salaries that allow people to build their future and settle in the territory," he stated.
The councillor highlighted the growing relevance and recognition of the Job Fair, considering it an "important calling card for the municipality," by facilitating contact with the job market, supporting professional choices, and contributing to the valorization of employment in Barcelos.
Over the three days, the Fair offered workshops, training sessions, speed interviews, and direct contact with companies, allowing participants to learn about the most sought-after skills, explore career paths, and identify job opportunities. EXSAD Gaming featured a space dedicated to the gaming universe.
The initiative was jointly organized by the Youth Department of the Municipality of Barcelos, UPCA, the Institute of Employment and Vocational Training (IEFP), and the Academic Association, reinforcing institutional cooperation in promoting youth employability and skills.
