Ponta Delgada: Housing is Priority for 2027 After Parish Meetings
Municipal Mayor details plans for new housing solutions, education, and mobility for the upcoming year.

The Mayor of Ponta Delgada Municipal Chamber, Pedro Nascimento Cabral, concluded meetings with the 24 parishes of the municipality, defining Housing as a central priority for 2027, with plans for new housing solutions, education, and mobility.
The Mayor of Ponta Delgada Municipal Chamber, Pedro Nascimento Cabral, has concluded a series of working meetings with the representatives of the 24 Parish Councils of the municipality. The aim was to identify the most pressing needs and investment priorities for 2027, a year in which Housing will continue to be a central pillar of the municipal strategy.
These meetings allowed for a deep understanding of the specific needs of each parish, the evaluation of ongoing projects, and the foresight of new interventions. This initiative strengthens the relationship of dialogue, proximity, and institutional and financial cooperation between the Municipality and local authorities.

Pedro Nascimento Cabral highlighted that Housing will be one of the main priorities in 2027, continuing the investment in approximately 100 new apartments, financed by the Recovery and Resilience Plan (PRR). Additionally, a new phase of the housing policy is being prepared, focusing on the creation of plots for self-construction and rental housing with an option to buy.

Education is another strategic area, with planned investments in the requalification of the school infrastructure and the construction of new educational establishments. Mobility, the upgrading of the road network, and the enhancement of public spaces also form part of the municipal priorities, alongside investment in sports facilities and the promotion of cultural activities in the different parishes.
The Mayor recalled the 16.67% increase in Inter-administrative Contracts for Delegation of Competencies, which will raise the funds allocated to the 24 Parish Councils from three to 3.5 million euros in 2027. This reinforcement aims to expand the intervention capacity of the Parish Councils.
