The Municipality of Nelas has demonstrated, through investment and concrete action, that water is an essential resource to be treated with responsibility, quality, and a vision for the future.
In 2023, the Municipality of Nelas was distinguished by ERSAR with the Exemplary Water Quality Seal for Human Consumption, a recognition of the quality of water reaching residents' taps.
Currently, the Municipality is investing in the New Central Pipeline. This initiative aims to reduce losses and waste, improve network efficiency, and enhance water quality and safety, particularly through the replacement of old asbestos-cement pipes.
The APR – Water For Reuse initiative is a system that allows for the reuse of wastewater for business purposes, among others, contributing to more sustainable management of this resource.
For the upcoming year, the Municipality plans to begin implementing telemetry and low-pressure remote management. This measure will enable better network understanding, resolution of supply and pressure issues, faster fault detection, consumption control, and action on losses.
Managing water is more than just ensuring it reaches the tap; it involves protecting public health, combating waste, preserving the environment, and preparing the Concelho de Nelas for the future.
