The event, which involved the collaboration of the PSP (Public Security Police) and the GNR (National Republican Guard), sought to ensure no senior in the municipality feels vulnerable or unprotected. António Fonseca, Clara Matos, and members of the security forces were the invited speakers.
In her opening address, Councillor Catarina Ribeiro emphasized the importance of social policies for the elderly, calling them a "permanent strategic priority." She stated, "We believe that aging with dignity requires transversal responses—from promoting physical and mental health, to combating social isolation, including safety and digital innovation."
The councillor highlighted the program “Séniores+Conectados” (Seniors+Connected), funded by the Norte 2030 program and the European Union, as an example of this social policy pillar. "We want a capable senior population that masters new technologies to bridge distances, but remains deeply rooted in the social and community life of our land," she concluded, assuring continued municipal investment in projects promoting the "autonomy, safety, and happiness" of the elderly.
