“"We came to Brussels to show that Viseu Dão Lafões develops and leads projects that serve as a benchmark for other European territories. LIFE Landscape Fire is a good example of this, due to the recognition it has achieved and its concrete results in preventing rural fires. This participation allowed the CIM Viseu Dão Lafões and the region's mayors to showcase the work we do in the region, learn about other experiences, and strengthen contacts that could open doors to new projects and partnerships."

The Viseu Dão Lafões Intermunicipal Community (CIM) was present at the European Week of Regions and Cities in Brussels, where the LIFE Landscape Fire project, focused on rural fire prevention, was highlighted as a finalist for the LIFE Awards 2025.
The initiative, which took place from October 12th to 14th, involved the participation of mayors from ten municipalities in the region. LIFE Landscape Fire, which promotes sustainable solutions such as controlled burning and extensive grazing, was one of nine European finalist projects out of approximately 150 projects completed in 2024, and the only one with Portuguese coordination to reach this stage.
The event, organized by the European Commission and the European Committee of the Regions, is a crucial meeting point for representatives of European institutions, local and regional authorities, businesses, and civil society, focusing on regional and urban policy.
The CIM Viseu Dão Lafões took advantage of its presence in Brussels to promote other regional projects, exchange experiences with representatives from other territories, and explore new opportunities for European cooperation.
The working mission included institutional meetings, notably at the Permanent Representation of Portugal to the European Union (REPER), and visits to the European Parliament. The objective was to strengthen the region's presence with European institutions and follow debates on community policies and funding opportunities.
