The city of Viseu will host the first edition of the FLIV – Viseu International Literary Festival, an initiative aiming to place literature and words at the center of the city's cultural life. The event, taking place from October 2nd to 11th, seeks to foster encounters between authors, readers, and various fields of creation and knowledge, under the theme “Before it’s too late”.
The Junta de Freguesia of Viseu is co-organizing the Book Fair, marking the start of FLIV from October 2nd at the Mercado 2 de Maio, in the Historic Center of Viseu. This partnership underscores the Junta's commitment to promoting local culture, reading, and literary creation, with a special focus on Viseu's authors and regional literary production.
During the Book Fair, the public can participate in debate panels, conversations with authors, and book presentations, creating opportunities for interaction between writers, readers, and the community. FLIV's program extends to various spaces within the city and municipality, including schools, care homes, and other community institutions, emphasizing cultural decentralization and the cultivation of new readers. Activities such as reading sessions, workshops, theater, and illustration proposals are planned for children, families, and seniors.
The festival will also occupy emblematic venues such as the Museu Almeida Moreira, the Palácio dos Silveiras, the Clube de Viseu, the Biblioteca D. Miguel da Silva, the Parque Aquilino Ribeiro, the Viriato Teatro Municipal, Rua Direita, and Rua Formosa. For ten days, Viseu will gather national and international authors, poets, artists, researchers, and thinkers, promoting dialogue across different cultures and generations. The program also includes Literary Routes, exhibitions, initiatives dedicated to memory and heritage, author encounters, music, cinema, and activities for children and youth.
The first edition of the Viseu International Literary Festival aims to be a space for encounter and participation, bringing books closer to people and taking literature to the streets, cultural spaces, schools, and communities. The Junta de Freguesia of Viseu thus reinforces the link between culture, community, and territory, valuing local literary creation.
