More than 1,500 people participated in the 10th Senior Meeting of Vila Pouca de Aguiar, which began with a Sunday Eucharist presided over by parish priest António Paulo Rodrigues. During the service, Pope Leo XIV was remembered, highlighting the importance of older persons as a sign of hope.
The Mayor, Ana Rita Dias, was present, interacting with the seniors and emphasizing in her speech that "our villages, our traditions, and our values were built by your hands, by your dedication, and by your love for your land."
Held for a decade, the Senior Meeting, organized by the Municipal Chamber on the first Sunday of this month, October 4th, aims to celebrate the International Day of Older Persons (October 1st). Seniors from various parishes and social institutions were transported to the event.
After a fellowship lunch, the afternoon was filled with music and entertainment, featuring a surprise performance by Nel Monteiro. The singer performed popular hits such as “Alô, Alô Maria Antónia”, “Como É Que Eu Hei-de”, “Retrato Sagrado”, and “Azar na Praia”, which prompted many attendees to sing and dance, turning the afternoon into a lively ball.
The Senior Meeting is establishing itself as a significant moment of participation and camaraderie for the senior population of Vila Pouca de Aguiar, celebrating not only age but also the stories, relationships, and contributions of those who have helped build the municipality.
