The Murça Municipal Library marked its 21st anniversary with a special evening dedicated to reading, literature, and sharing experiences. The first Municipal Library Literary Gathering, held last Saturday, September 19th, transformed the cultural space's gardens into a meeting point for books, readers, and the community.
Although the official date is September 16th, the celebration was a tribute to the book as an instrument of knowledge, culture, and encounter, in a relaxed atmosphere. Participants presented and shared books, writers, or literary genres, fostering a debate of ideas and reading experiences.
The initiative was attended by the Councillor for Education and Libraries, Ana Cristina Martins, who highlighted the dynamic of the meeting and announced a new phase in the modernization of the Municipal Library. The implementation of a new bibliographic management program is planned to modernize the cataloging and management of the library's collection, with online functionalities such as catalog consultation and book requests.
This solution is scheduled for 2027, integrating into the strategy of modernizing municipal services and the increasing use of digital tools and artificial intelligence. Culture was also celebrated through the senses, with a red fruit sangria prepared with Douro white wines and a tasting of regional products, valuing the municipality's identity.
The Murça Municipal Library demonstrated itself to be a living space of culture, knowledge, encounter, and community participation. The success of this first gathering sets the challenge for new meetings, reinforcing the library as an open house for culture and people.
