The European Week of Sport was celebrated in Chaves with a wide range of sports activities open to the entire population. The initiative saw strong participation from clubs, associations, and residents of various age groups, involving a total of over 3,000 participants and 24 local entities.
A highlight was the initiative «O Jogo Começa em Ti» (The Game Starts With You), part of Chaves' Program for the Promotion of School Success. The National Futsal Coach, Jorge Braz, visited the three School Clusters in the municipality, sharing experiences with students on ambition, effort, and overcoming challenges.
The program also included a colloquium titled «From High Competition to Longevity», held at the Multipurpose Room of the Cultural Quarter. It brought together Jorge Braz, Coach Vítor Martins (G.D. Chaves), National Walking Football Coordinator Rute Silva, and athlete Ivo Tavares, for a discussion on sports practice throughout all life stages.
Through open classes, trial training sessions, and inspirational talks, the initiative showcased the work of local clubs and associations, emphasizing the importance of sport for more active and healthier lifestyles.
Residents had the opportunity to try various sports for free, including athletics, senior physical activity, basketball, walking, running, futsal, karate, padel, pilates, tennis, trail running, volleyball, chess, and Zumba, among others.
The organization benefited from the direct collaboration of several entities, such as the Chaves Martial Arts Academy, Alameda Padel & Lounge, Associação Desportiva Flaviense, Grupo Desportivo de Chaves, Ténis Clube de Chaves, and Voleibol Clube Chaves, along with the 19th Infantry Regiment and Termas de Chaves.
The Municipality of Chaves expressed its gratitude to all associations, clubs, partners, and residents who participated and contributed to the success of this major sports celebration in the municipality.
