This year's theme, «Resilience Starts at Home», highlights the fundamental role of the home in emergency preparedness. The Municipality, part of the Resilient Cities Network, and through its Municipal Civil Protection Service (SMPC), is organizing various actions throughout October to promote safe behaviors and strengthen community response capacity.
Initiatives include the installation of new Meeting Points for emergency support, with the inauguration of one in Corroios, at Parque Urbano José Afonso. New signage for Population Concentration and Support Zones (ZCAP) will also be presented, with an identifying plaque at the Clube Recreativo e Desportivo de Miratejo.
A awareness campaign, «Resilience Starts at Home», aimed at municipal workers and their families, seeks to promote self-protection measures. Additionally, 53 schools will receive diplomas as part of the «Resilient Schools – Seixal» project, recognizing their commitment to prevention and school resilience.
The «Informed Population, Resilient Population» initiative, run by the SMPC with local volunteers, will disseminate Meeting Points, the SMS ALERT service, and SMPC activities, also encouraging volunteering.
The program also includes a study visit to the Municipal Operational Coordination Center (CCOM) and the Municipal Civil Protection Service for IEFP trainees, detailing the organization and resources of municipal civil protection.
In 2026, Seixal joined the sensor network of the Early Warning System for Flooding in the Lisbon Metropolitan Area (AML), enhancing early warning capabilities and mitigating flood impacts through local monitoring.
These actions aim to raise public awareness about risk prevention, such as seismic risks, promote safe behaviors in emergencies, and inform about the SMPC's role, thereby strengthening residents' resilience. The date, established by the UN, underscores the importance of individual and collective preparedness, reminding that prevention begins at home.
