The Moita Municipality is closely monitoring a focus of Newcastle Disease detected in a dovecote in the União das Freguesias de Baixa da Banheira e Vale da Amoreira, in coordination with the DGAV and other authorities.

A preventive bird cull operation is underway today, the 26th, at the affected farm, a mandatory sanitary measure determined by the national veterinary authority to halt the virus's circulation and safeguard the region's poultry farming.
Newcastle Disease is a highly contagious viral infection affecting various bird species. Laboratory confirmation of the virulent virus necessitated the immediate implementation of regulated measures at national and European levels.
To prevent the spread, the DGAV has established a Protection Zone (3 km radius) and a Surveillance Zone (10 km radius) around the focus. Strict temporary prohibitions apply within these perimeters, including the movement of birds, eggs, fresh meat, and derived products, and the holding of bird fairs or markets.
All bird keepers in the affected and surrounding areas are urged to strictly adhere to biosecurity rules, including preventing contact with wild birds, limiting access to dovecotes, reporting abnormalities to the DGAV, and ensuring proper disposal of animal carcasses.
The Municipality of Moita will continue to monitor the situation and collaborate with veterinary health authorities.
