The celebrations, taking place throughout October, are highlighted by the Municipal Assembly's solemn session and the awarding of Municipal Merit Medals on the 22nd. This tradition, suspended in recent years, aims to publicly recognize the contributions of individuals to the development and enhancement of the municipality.
The proposal, unanimously approved by the Council and Municipal Assembly, honors four individuals: Father Manuel António Guerreiro do Rosário, Maria do Rosário Rodrigues Cesário das Neves (posthumously), Vitorino Bernardino Pereira, and Agostinho dos Reis Chainho. The distinctions acknowledge services rendered in social, cultural, heritage, traditional commerce, and defense of local taverns.
Luís Vital Alexandre, the Mayor, emphasized that the revival of this practice values "our people" and the municipality's shared history, strengthening the sense of community.
The cultural program includes a concert by Gisela João on October 21st. On the 22nd, Jardim 1.º de Maio will host a popular festival with a dance led by João do Carmo and a concert by Fabiana Candeias and Banda, fostering intergenerational connection and the celebration of Grândola's identity.
The mayor stressed the importance of sharing and collective celebration, inviting everyone to dignify the occasion and reinforce the sense of community and local history.
