The Local Health Unit of the Alentejo Coast (ULSLA) has introduced an innovative surgical technique for breast cancer treatment, performing an endoscopic mastectomy with immediate breast reconstruction for the first time.

The procedure, which took place on October 9th, marks a significant advancement in the minimally invasive approach to this oncological disease. The new surgical technique aims to reduce the aggressiveness of the operation, speed up patient recovery, and enhance aesthetic results, all while maintaining high standards of safety and clinical efficacy.
Breast cancer remains the most common oncological disease among women in Portugal, with around 9,000 new cases diagnosed annually. The Alentejo Coast region has also seen a progressive increase in its incidence, highlighting the importance of providing increasingly specialized and accessible healthcare responses to the local population.
This pioneering surgery reflects ULSLA's commitment to differentiating healthcare services. It was made possible through the close collaboration of the Senology, General Surgery, and Plastic Surgery teams, strengthening the institution's capacity to offer reference techniques without requiring patients to travel to other hospital centers.
ULSLA reaffirms its focus on innovation, differentiation, and proximity, pillars that continue to drive the evolution of healthcare services provided to the residents of the Alentejo Coast.
