In observance of World Palliative Care Day, celebrated on October 10th, the Intrahospital Support Team for Palliative Care (EIHSCP) of ULS Almada-Seixal (ULSAS) organized an awareness event in the atrium of the 0 floor of Hospital Garcia de Orta (HGO). The aim was to reinforce the importance of palliative care in promoting dignity, comfort, and quality of life.
The EIHSCP prepared a set of activities for professionals and users, including an exhibition of posters on the theme and the screening of a video. Visitors were invited to leave personal messages and to learn about the results of a challenge launched in 2025, where the most frequent expressions were "hugging family" and "being happy".
The initiative sought to encourage reflection on the meaning of Palliative Care and the sharing of perspectives, also offering clarifications and informational leaflets on the right to complete an advance directive (living will).
The EIHSCP is a specialized multidisciplinary team that operates in a hospital setting, ensuring differentiated and humanized support throughout the complex illness process, from diagnosis to end of life, aiming to alleviate suffering and provide the best possible quality of life for the person and their family.
Its mission focuses on promoting comfort, dignity, and quality of life through symptom control, relief of suffering, and compassionate care, respecting the individuality and needs of each person at every stage of illness.
