SIMARSUL is investing approximately 800,000 euros in the installation of two solar plants for self-consumption at the Barreiro/Moita and Quinta do Conde wastewater treatment plants, enhancing the energy efficiency and sustainability of its infrastructure.

SIMARSUL has signed a construction contract with I-SETE – Inovação Soluções Económicas e Tecnologia Ecológica, Lda., for the design and construction of photovoltaic power generation units. The total investment amounts to €796,372.77 and aims to improve the energy efficiency and sustainability of sanitation infrastructure in the Setúbal Peninsula region.
The project encompasses the complete development of two Photovoltaic Self-Consumption Production Units (UPAC Fotovoltaica), to be installed at the Barreiro/Moita Wastewater Treatment Plant (ETAR) and the Quinta do Conde ETAR. The contract covers all phases, from licensing and engineering to construction, testing, and grid connection, including two years of operation and maintenance services.
The solar plants will cover a total area of 11,463m², with an installed capacity of 1,240 kWp. The estimated annual production of 2,150 Mwh will represent 9% of SIMARSUL's energy consumption. Self-consumption is projected at 79% for the Barreiro/Moita ETAR and 97% for the Quinta do Conde ETAR, contributing to reduced energy dependency and SIMARSUL's decarbonization efforts.
With over two decades of operation, SIMARSUL, in collaboration with its municipal partners, focuses on energy efficiency for responsible water resource management, sanitation infrastructure resilience, and ecosystem protection.
