Alina Shalukhina, a doctoral student in Mathematics at NOVA FCT and researcher at the Center for Mathematics and Applications (NOVA Math), has been selected to join the European Mathematical Society Young Academy (EMYA).

The application, proposed by NOVA Math and co-signed by the International Centre for Mathematics (CIM) and the Portuguese Mathematical Society (SPM), resulted from a competitive European process conducted by the European Mathematical Society (EMS).
Established in 2022, the EMYA aims to strengthen the participation of early-career mathematicians in the European mathematical community, serving as a platform for young researchers to contribute to the EMS's activities and decision-making processes, and to promote initiatives supporting new generations of mathematicians. Members are selected based on academic merit and commitment to the Academy's objectives.
This distinction is a recognition of the doctoral student's scientific career and her contribution to the mathematical community. The selection also confirms the role of NOVA Math, the Department of Mathematics, and NOVA FCT in fostering new scientific leadership, reflecting the School's commitment to preparing researchers with the capacity for European-level impact.
