The event, held at the Auditório da Casa da Cidadania Cabós Gonçalves, aims to reflect on the preservation and reinterpretation of the municipality's industrial heritage, deeply marked by industrialization and the CUF complex. Admission is free.
The session will feature participants such as Sara Ferreira, Councilor of the Barreiro Municipal Council; Rui Braga, Vice-President of the same Council; Silvério Regalado, Secretary of State for Local Administration and Spatial Planning; Nuno Sampaio, Executive Director of Casa da Arquitetura; and João Nunes, landscape architect.
The conference will explore how the material and immaterial traces of industrialization can contribute to urban regeneration, sustainable development, and cultural creation, addressing the relationship between industrial heritage, identity, and collective memory.
The opening will include interventions by Sara Ferreira, Nuno Sampaio, and Silvério Regalado. This will be followed by the presentation “Legado industrial no Município do Barreiro” (Industrial Legacy in the Municipality of Barreiro), by António Camarão, head of the Cultural Heritage Division of the Barreiro Municipal Council.
A round table with Rui Braga and João Nunes, moderated by architect Manuel Salgado, will discuss heritage preservation, urban transformation, and the role of the industrial legacy in enhancing the territory and fostering cultural and civic dynamics in Barreiro.
This initiative is part of the national debate series “Plataforma Cidade” (City Platform), promoted by Casa da Arquitetura and Direção-Geral do Território, within the scope of the celebrations for the 50th anniversary of Local Government in Portugal.
