The Neurosurgery Service and the Rehabilitation Nurses Nucleus (NER) of ULS Almada-Seixal (ULSAS) marked World Spine Day on October 16th with an awareness event at Almada Forum.

The initiative aimed to reinforce health literacy in the community through an exhibition of posters on “How to Maintain a Healthy Spine” and the presentation of a video with exercises aimed at promoting spinal health.
During the event, Specialist Nurses in Rehabilitation Nursing (EEER) measured Body Mass Index (BMI) and assessed spine pain risk in approximately 161 people, with an average age of 46. Informative leaflets were distributed and doubts were clarified, encouraging healthy lifestyles and correct posture when using mobile phones and computers to prevent injuries.
The results indicated that 69 people had a normal BMI and 59 were overweight. Regarding spine pain risk, 67 people showed moderate risk and 48 demonstrated potential risk.
ULSAS highlighted the role of EEER in health promotion, disease prevention, and empowering the population for a better quality of life.
