The event, organized by the Almada Municipal Council and Almada Fórum, took place at the FNAC of Almada Fórum and focused on three crucial areas for the population's well-being. ULSAS's participation underscored its commitment to health literacy and prevention.
On October 1st, mental health was the central theme. Ricardo Alves, Attending Physician from the Public Health Service of ULSAS, moderated a panel that included Filipe Vicente, a psychiatrist from the same unit. The discussion focused on prevention, early identification, coordination between specialized and primary care, and defending the rights of individuals with mental illness, aiming to reduce stigma.
Nutrition and diet were addressed on October 2nd, with the participation of Filipa Carneiro, a Nutritionist from the Nutrition Service of ULSAS. Public health issues such as obesity and chronic diseases linked to inadequate dietary habits were discussed, emphasizing the role of balanced nutrition, physical activity, and individualized nutritional support. The session also highlighted the importance of distinguishing credible information from misinformation in the field of nutrition.
October 3rd was dedicated to breast cancer, featuring Silvia Pinto, an Expert Nurse in Rehabilitation from the Autonomous Functional Unit of Senology at ULSAS. Topics covered included prevention, early diagnosis, screening, and the importance of an integrated approach to cancer patients, considering their physical, emotional, and social dimensions.
The presence of ULSAS professionals at these sessions facilitated knowledge sharing and community awareness on vital public health issues. Promoting health literacy, disease prevention, early problem identification, and access to credible information are fundamental pillars for informed decision-making and improved quality of life.
ULSAS reaffirms the importance of bringing healthcare professionals closer to the community, fostering a culture of prevention and person-centered care.
