The Festa da Adiafa, held last Sunday, September 27th, took participants on a journey to the past of the Cartaxo municipality, highlighting the importance of viticulture as a pillar of its identity. The event, organized by the Câmara Municipal do Cartaxo with support from wine producers, folklore groups, and cultural associations, took place near the Rural and Wine Museum.
Dozens of people, dressed in traditional old-time attire, recreated daily scenes related to the grape harvest and wine production. Attendees gathered around a fire, with pots cooking traditional dishes like bone soup and tomatada, while others prepared cod, roasted chorizo, and fried eels. The traditional gastronomy, served with nationally and internationally recognized excellent wines, was one of the highlights.
Ethnographic recreations and gastronomy were presented by the municipality's folklore groups and the Sociedade Filarmónica Cartaxense. The festival culminated with the Baile das Caramelas (Caramel Ball), accompanied by accordions, which enlivened the event until dusk.
During the celebration, Ana Pinto, a recently deceased collaborator of the Rural and Wine Museum of the Municipality of Cartaxo, was honored. In her memory, the vineyard that is part of the museum's heritage was named after her.
The event featured the presence of various folklore groups, including the Rancho Folclórico Ceifeiras de Porto de Muge, the Rancho Folclórico da Freguesia da Lapa, the Associação Cultural e Recreativa Rancho Folclórico do Cartaxo, among others, and the Sociedade Filarmónica Cartaxense. Producers and agricultural estates such as Adega do Cartaxo, Batistas by Pitada Verde, and Quinta da Lapa also participated.
