The initiative, held this Saturday, saw the participation of volunteers in an afternoon dedicated to cleaning the beach and reflecting on the impact of waste on marine ecosystems. The event aimed to reinforce the importance of individual and collective actions for a cleaner and more sustainable coastline.
In addition to waste collection, the Sunset Beach Cleanup included a program of multidisciplinary activities designed to extend knowledge sharing and environmental awareness until the end of the night. The action was supported by various entities, including CIIMAR, CMIA de Vila do Conde, Counting Stars, Portuguese Plastics Pact, Mar de Experiências, Águas do Norte, FOCA, and DOCAPESCA.
The event partnered with global initiatives such as World Cleanup Day, the #EUBeachCleanup 2026 campaign, and the European Climate Pact, highlighting the need for community mobilization to protect the oceans and coastline. The final message emphasizes that 'protecting the ocean also starts on our beach'.
