The Municipality of Trofa marks the passage of the Sons no Património festival through Covelas on October 25th, with an afternoon dedicated to local history and culture.

Trofa once again joins the programming of Sons no Património, a festival in its 9th edition running from September 18th to November 22nd, involving 17 municipalities in the Porto Metropolitan Area. In Covelas, the event takes place on October 25th, offering an afternoon to discover the territory, history, and heritage through the connection between music and places that define the parish's identity.
The program begins at 3:00 PM, at the Chapel of São Gonçalo, with a guided walk through Covelas' cultural heritage. Participants will learn about heritage references and historical sites along the route.
The walk concludes at the Parish Church of Covelas, where at 5:00 PM, João Diogo Leitão will perform. The musician, honored in 2024 with the Carlos Paredes Award and winner of the 1st National Composition Competition for Viola Braguesa, will present a concert.
João Diogo Leitão, with national and international recognition, also won the Young Musicians Award – Higher Level, which allowed him to perform solo with the Gulbenkian Orchestra. He studied with Dejan Ivanovic at the University of Évora and completed a master's degree with Zoran Dukic at the Royal Conservatory of The Hague, Netherlands. He has performed in venues such as Casa da Música, the Belém Cultural Center, and the Grand Auditorium of the Gulbenkian Foundation, and has participated in broadcasts for Antena 2 and Radio 4.
The concert will be held in the Parish Church of Covelas, a temple whose history dates back at least to the 13th century. The parish of São Martinho de Covelas is referenced in the Inquiries of D. Afonso III in 1258. The current church is the result of successive transformations over the centuries, being inaugurated in 1884, a date inscribed on its facade.
The initiative reinforces the commitment to valuing local heritage as a space for meeting and cultural enjoyment, offering an afternoon where history and music intersect. The event is part of the Sons no Património festival, promoted in the Porto Metropolitan Area.
