As part of European Mobility Week, the Municipality of Póvoa de Varzim held a reflection and debate session on Monday titled “Public Transport: What Future?”. The event symbolically took place inside a UNIR Network bus, parked in Praça do Almada, in front of the Town Hall.
The initiative aimed to discuss the challenges and opportunities for public transport, emphasizing its role in promoting more sustainable and accessible mobility for the population. It included the participation of the President of the Municipal Council of Póvoa de Varzim, Andrea Silva, and the Chairman of the Board of Directors of Transportes Metropolitanos do Porto (TMP), Nuno Neves de Sousa.
Andrea Silva reaffirmed the Municipality's concern and commitment to ensuring an increasingly accessible and comprehensive public transport network, focusing on improving territorial coverage and service quality.
The reinforcement of public transport services in the Parish of Argivai was also announced, with a new UNIR Network service starting on October 1st. This new service aims to serve the interior of the parish, improving the accessibility and mobility of its inhabitants.
The holding of this session reinforces the importance that the Municipality of Póvoa de Varzim places on public transport as a fundamental instrument for territorial cohesion, sustainability, and quality of life, maintaining the commitment to seek answers that best serve the municipality's population.
