The concert, held at the Cine Teatro Garrett, marked the premiere of FIMPV+, a new concert series aiming to extend the Póvoa de Varzim International Music Festival's presence throughout the year. Young pianist João Neto Vieira, a former student of the Póvoa de Varzim Music School and currently studying at the Escola Superior de Música e Artes do Espetáculo under the guidance of Pedro Burmester, presented a demanding program featuring works by Bach, Schumann, and Prokofiev.
Vieira demonstrated interpretive maturity, combining technical mastery with expressiveness and musical intensity. The highlight was his rendition of Sergei Prokofiev's complex Sonata No. 7, one of the most challenging works in the 20th-century piano repertoire, known as one of the 'War Sonatas'.
The performance of this technically and expressively demanding score confirmed the pianist's qualities, as he tackled the challenges with personality and musical authority. The audience's enthusiastic response led to warm applause, prompting João Neto Vieira to offer two encores by Rachmaninov and Schumann, concluding the night with rare artistic intensity.
The debut of FIMPV+ revealed its potential as a meeting space for music, artists, and the community. The strong public turnout and the quality of the artistic proposal reinforce the new cycle's ambition to value emerging talents, regional artistic paths, and diverse musical languages.
FIMPV+ continues on November 6, at 9:30 PM, with Emmy Curl, at the Auditório Municipal.
