On the morning of September 22nd, 31 children and young people aged between 6 and 14 swapped cars for bicycles to participate in the Bicycle Train in Povoa de Varzim.

The initiative, part of European Mobility Week and commemorating the European Day without Cars, started from Praça do Almada. Along the route, strategic "stops" allowed new participants to join, simulating the dynamics of a train.
The route was accompanied by the Municipal Police, also on bicycles, ensuring the safety of the 31 young cyclists throughout the journey.
The main objective of the Bicycle Train was to demonstrate in a practical and fun way that viable alternatives to using cars for daily commutes exist. The activity aimed to instill habits of more sustainable, active, and healthy mobility from an early age.
This event marked the closing of European Mobility Week 2026, which this year had the theme "Mobility for All".
