At the City Council meeting on Tuesday, November 3, Andrea Silva explained that the Cultural and Recreational Association of Matriz requested a Special Noise Permit for an event on October 30 and 31. The permit was issued, but due to the alarm generated, the Association was misled, and the Council revoked the permit on the morning of October 31, communicating the decision to the Association and the PSP.
The mayor acknowledged that "we acted with a sense of responsibility and, in close coordination with the Association and the police forces, we did everything within our power to safeguard the safety of people and property", she assured.
Andrea Silva further clarified the Council's position, stating that it "does not share ideals contrary to the democratic spirit" and "is not complicit with any ideologies advocating intolerance, discrimination, and violence". She also addressed the associations in the municipality, highlighting the "relationship of trust and good faith" that the Council maintains with them.
The Mayor guaranteed that "Póvoa de Varzim is, and will continue to be, a city for everyone and for all. There is no place for hatred in it".
Regarding investments, the municipal executive approved the draft contracts for the reconversion of the former Obra de Santa Zita and the creation of a nursery and kindergarten in the facilities of the Junta de Freguesia of Balasar.
Support for local entities was also secured, including the provision of transport for the School Groups of Rates and Aver-o-Mar and the cession of the Cine-Teatro Garrett to the Junta de Freguesia of Balasar.
