The churches of São Pedro de Abragão in Penafiel and Santa Maria de Meinedo in Lousada are undergoing conservation and restoration works, with an investment exceeding 141 thousand euros promoted by Rota do Românico.

At the Church of Santa Maria de Meinedo, the works will focus on the nave, the side altarpieces dedicated to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Crucified Christ, and the gilded wood carvings and wood paintings of the triumphal arch and adjacent walls. In the chancel, the intervention covers the main altarpiece, the altarpiece imagery of Saint Joseph, Our Lady of the Rosary, Saint Blaise and a pair of torchholders, as well as the mural paintings of the Casa da Tribuna.
The estimated cost for the interventions at the Church of Meinedo exceeds 141 thousand euros, with an expected duration of 200 days. The works are co-financed at 75% by the European Union (NORTE 2030) and 25% by the Municipality, through the operation “Rotas do Norte: Conservação e Salvaguarda do Património da Rota do Românico”, submitted by the Association of Municipalities of Vale do Sousa (VALSOUSA).
In parallel, the Church of São Pedro de Abragão in Penafiel is also being intervened. The planned investment in this National Monument is 125 thousand euros, aimed at restoring the two side altarpieces of the nave (Our Lady of the Rosary and Saint Anthony), the mural paintings of the triumphal arch, the ceiling, and the walls of the chancel and the Casa da Tribuna.
The conservation and restoration program of Rota do Românico is currently undertaking other works in three classified monuments in the Vale do Sousa, including the Church of Salvador de Aveleda (Lousada) and the Churches of São Miguel de Entre-os-Rios and Salvador de Cabeça Santa (Penafiel).
Rota do Românico currently brings together 58 monuments and three interpretation centers across 12 municipalities in Northern Portugal. Its areas of intervention include scientific research, heritage conservation, cultural promotion, heritage education, and tourism promotion.
