A total of 149 new homes designated for affordable rental are currently under construction in the Municipality of Gondomar, as part of its Local Housing Strategy. Of these, 88 units are scheduled for completion by the end of the current year.
The Mayor, Luís Filipe Araújo, visited the ongoing works, which represent a global investment of approximately 18 million euros. Funding is provided by the Recovery and Resilience Plan (PRR), under the Program 1.º Direito – Support for Access to Housing.
Projects slated for completion this year include the redevelopment of the Conjunto Habitacional das Casas Amarelas in Gondomar (São Cosme), which will create 24 new units. Additionally, multi-family buildings are under construction at Rua da Federação das Coletividades in Fânzeres (18 units), on Rua Almada Negreiros in Baguim do Monte (18 units), and a housing complex on Rua Campo Alto (Belo Horizonte) in São Pedro da Cova (28 units).
Also in development are a multi-family building on Rua Paulo da Gama in Rio Tinto, comprising 54 units, and a housing complex on Rua José Coelho da Silveira (Belo Horizonte) in São Pedro da Cova, which will feature seven units.
These 149 homes will be built at controlled costs, aiming to enhance the Municipality's capacity to address housing access challenges faced by many families. The initiative seeks to expand the public housing stock, promote access to dignified housing, and foster social and territorial cohesion within the municipality.
