The results of the continuous improvement work developed in partnership with the Kaizen Institute were presented this Wednesday, the 14th, at a best practices session that gathered representatives from various municipalities across the country. In the Urban Services and Environment Division (DSUA), the evolution in the number of monthly requests for water services showed a 249% increase between 2025 and 2026, with execution time decreasing by 74%. For sanitation, monthly requests rose by 195% and execution time decreased by 43%. In the meter service, the monthly increase was 18.4%.
In the Road Conservation, Logistics, and Maintenance Division (DCRLM), the monthly number of executed requests grew by 452%, and the average execution time dropped by 21%. These results reflect the involvement of employees, process organization, and increased productivity.
“Improving public services is, above all, improving people's lives,” stated António Jorge Franco, president of the Mealhada Municipal Council, highlighting the professionalism of municipal employees and the goal of having a municipality that is “closer, more organized, and more capable of responding to the needs of those who live, work, or choose to invest in our county.”
The best practices sharing session took place at the Cineteatro Messias, with representatives from municipalities such as Anadia, Pombal, Mortágua, Penacova, Caldas da Rainha, Maia, Gaia, Oliveira do Hospital, Murtosa, Almeida, and Proença-a-Nova.
Continuous improvement also extends to urban planning. The optimization project for urban licensing, implemented since early 2024, earned the Municipality of Mealhada an Honorable Mention in the category «Excellence in the Public Sector» at the 14th edition of the Kaizen Award Portugal.
